The Alupka Palace (Vorontsov's Palace) and Park Reserve

It's one of the finest palaces and parks in Ukraine. Who visited it, never he will forget this artificial miracle, turrets and teeth of which as if repeat the outline of the fantastic lock of nature - the mountain of AI- Petri.

The palace was built at the first half of the 19th century as the Crimean residence of General Governor of Novorossia (an administrative unit in Russia Empire) Count M. S. Vorontsov. Construction was begun in 1828 and ended in 1848. Alupka Palace was designed by architect E. Blore in English Gothic style with the evident elements of the Oriental style and is a unique piece of architecture.
Alupka Palace is now an architectural and art museum. It contains the furnishings and art collections, which had been in the palace itself and the collections from other estates of the Southern coast of the Crimea. The inverted to the sea southern facade of palace, built at the end of 14 centuries.

Before the facade is arranged the "lion terrace", from which by marches gets down monumental stairs with three pairs of the lions of white marble of the work of Italian sculptor and his students. The wakeful lions above the upper stages repeat Antonio Canova's lions from the tomb of dad of Clement of the XII in Rome.
The rear facade of palace and its western part - romantic architectural variation on the theme of the "style of Tudors" 16 - began 17 centuries.
There are about 150 rooms in the palace, decorated by English, French and Russian masters.

Winter garden - characteristic belonging of the ceremonial European palaces of 19 centuries. Blue drawing room with the stucco moldings is splendid. In the winter garden, in the blue drawing room, and also on the terraces of the portal of southern facade are assembled the sculptural images of the family of Vorontsov and its close ones, copy of the sculptures of antique gods and philosophers. Halls decorate the fabrics of Italian, French and English painters. Russian painting is the portraits of the work of Levitskiy, Borovikovskogo, by the views of Shchedrin, Orlovskiy, brothers Of cherentsovykh, Ayvazovskiy.

Alupka Palace with its Upper and Lower parks is complemented by picturesque landscape areas (covering 40 hectares). It attained the status of a museum in 1921, and in 1990 it was reorganized into a reserve.
